After 2020’s kick in the stomach and the subsequent impact that it had on business, there is no better time to reset and refocus on growing. “If you’ve been trying to get your business unstuck and back into growth mode, but just can’t quite get back into it, or you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start, I have just the secret sauce for you!” says Jaqueline Raw, Owner and Founder of Ycagel.
She adds that as entrepreneurs, we put an immense amount of pressure on ourselves to perform and operate at an ‘always-on’ level. “This often leads to feeling overwhelmed, causing many of us to procrastinate, affecting our productivity, and making it tough to break out of the vicious cycle we find ourselves in.”
So, where do you begin? Jacqui says you need to start by working smarter, not harder. “Yes, finally – someone said it! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about delivering against deadlines or milestones in key projects. What I’m talking about is NOT trying to change the face of your business every, single day.”
She explains that so many entrepreneurs fall into the trap of creating ‘To Do, Today Lists’, most of which bleed into the next day and none of which actually move our businesses forward from a growth perspective. “When you commit to doing the very least amount of work needed to move the needle, but you are relentless about doing that every day – before long, you will start seeing real and meaningful progress. It feels super counter-intuitive but trust me – this not only allows you to breathe and focus, but the ease of this commitment also empowers you to want to crack on.”
In order to do less and achieve more, Jacqui believes that you should only choose ONE thing a day. “Choose the one thing that will have a significant impact on moving your business forward and commit to doing that. Resist the urge to make a 20-point list. For example, if you’re trying to launch a new business and you want to kick off by creating your brand, that one thing is NOT, ‘creating my brand’ That’s one thing with multiple things under it – from logo design, font and colour choice to vision, mission and values – too much – which is bound to y overwhelm you and lead to procrastination. Instead, your one thing should be, ‘design logo’. This is a straightforward task that is not only achievable in one day, but also has a real impact on your brand journey!”
“By breaking things down into single achievable steps and then ticking one step off every day – you are able to do more over a longer period by doing ‘less’ daily. It’s like leveraging compound interest over time – only we’re doing it with the net results of single deliberate actions taken daily! If you want to GROW BIG this year (and beyond), distill your action lists into single tasks then commit to ticking them off one by one, day by day. Before you know it, you will be reaping the rewards of deliberate, consistent action” Jacqui concludes.
