Leading variable workforce provider, Makosi, has announced that it has appointed recently retired KPMG partner Bill Tomazin to its Advisory Board.

Tomazin was most recently KPMG’s National Managing Partner for Audit Operations. He also held several other leadership positions including head of growth, client experience, innovation and strategy. These roles included responsibilities for developing KPMG’s Audit transformation and growth strategy which was heavily focused on the client experience, technology, data enablement and diversified delivery channels.

A proponent of the use of smart technologies to deliver smart audits, Tomazin experimented with, and scaled, new approaches to the audit process, including building automation into the audit process and the smart use of data.

Given his experience and areas of expertise, Tomazin believes there is a great deal he can contribute to Makosi’s growth and strategy in terms of how the firm delivers services. “I’m passionate about finding ways to innovate both the audit process and the customer experience,” he reveals.

One of the biggest challenges facing the audit profession currently is obtaining, transforming and protecting client data, says Tomazin. “It’s a challenge that many clients are not prepared for,” he says. “Given that the data can substantially impact the audit risk assessment process and conclusions, as well as serves as reliable audit evidence, the industry needs to be aggressively leveraging this data and enabling technologies to achieving this.”

While at KPMG he helped develop a client experience program that was centred on ‘Moments that Matter’ in a client relationship. These moments probed the most impactful moments in the customer journey, and how to capitalise on them. It was this initiative that helped KPMG to better manage the customer experience while transforming the way it delivers audit services.

Revealing that he originally intended to take it easy when he retired from KPMG in 2022, Tomazin says Makosi’s culture, energy and focus on innovation was irresistible. “The more I have gotten to know Makosi, the more impressed I am by the company’s people-first culture, its innovative approach, and its unique offerings.”

Founded in 2006, Makosi partners with accounting teams globally to deliver high-quality variable workforce solutions including audit, assurance, and advisory services. The business addresses the biggest challenge currently facing audit and accounting firms: sourcing and retaining talent by offering on-demand talent through a flexible talent pool, that is easily scalable and reduces the recruitment cycle to a few hours. Its disruptive business model is a cost-effective and efficient alternative to the outdated secondment model.

The firm employs more than 1,500 accountants in 12 countries with a compelling employment proposition: the ability to work 100% remotely with international clients, gain international experience and exposure, flexible working hours, good career growth, and attractive remuneration benefits. The company has proved beyond a reasonable doubt that a remote working model can work successfully without any loss of organizational culture.

Commenting on Tomazin’s appointment to Makosi’s Advisory Board, Makosi founder and CEO Darren Isaacs says, “We are delighted that Bill accepted our invitation to join Makosi’s Advisory Board and we look forward to leveraging his extensive knowledge, experience and creativity to help drive Makosi’s growth.”
