Clover Mama Afrika is honoured with the Diamond Arrow Award 2019

Johannesburg, 12 February 2019 – Clover’s corporate social investment (CSI) project, Clover Mama Afrika, has been awarded the Diamond Arrow Award by the Performance Management Review (PMR) at a prestigious ceremony held at the Maslow Hotel on Tuesday, 11 February.

This year, Clover Mama Afrika came out tops once again in the Food Manufacturer/processors category with a high rating of 4.36 out 5 points in an annual survey. The CSI project received this award for actively playing their role in uplifting and empowering women from across the country with vital skills which they transfer to other members in the community to break the cycle of poverty.

The PMR Awards, which companies and institutions cannot enter, however, they are assessed through a national survey to determine how they are perceived to enhance economic development, growth and stability through their corporate social responsibility programmes and initiatives in South Africa. Winning the Diamond Arrow Award gives Clover Mama Afrika the platform to not only to showcase their remarkable contribution to solving the unbalanced socio-economic state of South Africa but it also encourages the Mamas to continue paying it forward to those that live in their community.

Clover Mama Afrika is no stranger to victory as they have received this award since 2005! To date, the 14-year-old project has appointed 45 Mamas throughout South African which collectively care for over 12 800 children and 1200 elderly people many of which are abused, orphaned, homeless and vulnerable.

Professor Elain Vlok, Founder of Clover Mama Afrika says, “This award is very special to us, it reminds us that we are doing something right. We have been honoured each year to receive this award and hope that through this project we can continue to impact the lives of many more in communities across the country.”

About Clover Mama Afrika

The Clover Mama Afrika project started as a humble project 14 years ago and has since developed into Clover’s flagship CSI programme. The project has to date appointed 45 Mamas throughout South Africa. These remarkable women collectively care for over 12 800 children and 1 200 elderly people, many of which are abused, orphaned, homeless and vulnerable.

Clover Mama Afrika empowers these Mamas with vital skills such as cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, business management, food gardening and bread baking skills. Over and above the training sessions these women are all supplied with the necessary tools, equipment, and infrastructure to create an income for themselves and give back to their communities.
