
FREE STATE – An alleged murder suspect has surrendered to authorities following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Bohlokong, Free State. Local police are actively investigating the homicide after the teenager succumbed to severe injuries sustained during an alleged assault in the Riverside section of the township.
On Sunday, 26 July 2026, at approximately 03:05, law enforcement officials received a notification from a local hospital regarding the admission of a patient from the Riverside area. The individual had been admitted with critical injuries directly linked to an alleged assault. Despite medical intervention, the 16-year-old victim later succumbed to his injuries.
According to police authorities, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly stabbed in the head with a screwdriver while on a street in the Riverside section of Bohlokong. Investigators have noted that the motive for the fatal attack remains unknown at this stage of the ongoing inquiry.
Following the incident, the alleged suspect voluntarily handed himself over to the police and was subsequently detained. A formal case of murder is now under active investigation by Bohlokong police.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, to face a formal charge of murder. Authorities continue to appeal to the community for any additional information that may assist the investigation.
