JOHANNESBURG — Law enforcement has shut down a Crown Mines illegal abattoir after an aerial drone operation detected suspicious late-night activity at the property.
The joint surveillance operation, coordinated from the Provincial Operational Command Centre (POCC) in Brixton, utilized drone technology at approximately 03:00 to monitor the area. Upon detecting irregular movements at the Johannesburg premises, ground response units were immediately dispatched to investigate the site.
Once on the scene, officers confirmed that the property was illegally operating as an abattoir. The site is currently being processed by a specialized task team, which includes the Gauteng Provincial Stock Theft and Endangered Species Investigators, alongside experts from Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management.
