GAUTENG — Following a targeted shooting on Sunday evening on 3rd Avenue in Houghton, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has mobilized its highest-level investigative units to probe the attempted murder of Major General Feroz Khan.
Spearheading the multi-disciplinary investigation are the Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, and the national Detective Service. To guarantee that no stone is left unturned, Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has officially integrated the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) into the case. This strategic deployment aims to exhaust every investigative lead and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The ambush occurred just days before the senior officer was slated to testify before the Madlanga Commission on July 1, 2026. Addressing widespread public speculation connecting the timing of the attack to his upcoming testimony, SAPS firmly cautioned against drawing premature conclusions. The police service labeled such assumptions regarding a potential motive as irresponsible, emphasizing that detectives are strictly following the physical evidence wherever it may lead.
Despite the silence on a confirmed motive, the police service issued a stern warning regarding the integrity of the country’s legal system. SAPS emphasized that any calculated effort to silence, intimidate, or harm individuals participating in judicial proceedings is treated with the utmost severity. The force made it unequivocally clear that meddling with the administration of justice or disrupting the commission’s work will trigger the full, uncompromising might of the law.
Lieutenant General Dimpane publicly denounced the violent act, reinforcing her commitment to upholding the rule of law.
