MPUMALANGA — Law enforcement officials have dismantled a suspected illicit brewing syndicate, resulting in seven arrests linked to an illegal alcohol manufacturing operation in Ogies, Mpumalanga.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) launched the raid on Saturday, 27 June 2026, after local officers received community tip-offs regarding unusual activities at a plot in the area. Responding swiftly to the intelligence, police executed a search of the premises and uncovered a fully equipped illicit brewery.

During the operation, officers seized a substantial quantity of unbranded liquor alongside specialized brewing apparatus, industrial chemicals, and packaging supplies. Law enforcement officials are currently calculating the estimated street value of the confiscated goods and equipment.

Seven individuals found at the scene were taken into custody and initially faced charges under the Liquor Act. However, further vetting by investigators revealed that all seven suspects are undocumented foreign nationals, prompting the addition of Immigration Act violations to their case docket.

Detectives have initiated a manhunt to identify and locate the registered owner of the property used for the unlicensed brewery. The accused are scheduled to make their first appearance at the Ogies Magistrate’s Court in due course.

Following the successful operation, the SAPS issued a statement commending the community for their vigilance, urging citizens to continue reporting suspicious criminal enterprises to help curb illicit trade in the region.
