FICKSBURG — A swift illegal firearm arrest in Ficksburg has led to the detention of an 18-year-old male after authorities recovered an unlicensed shotgun in Meqheleng, near the city.
Acting on intelligence provided by local residents, the Ficksburg Crime Prevention team launched an operation on the evening of Thursday, 25 June 2026. At approximately 18:30, community members alerted law enforcement to a young man allegedly harboring an illegal weapon at a specific residence in Zone 8.
Officers responded by proceeding to the identified house, where they located the suspect. A subsequent search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a brown shotgun. While the weapon bore a visible serial number, investigators noted that no ammunition was found in conjunction with it.
The teenager was immediately taken into custody after failing to present a valid license for the weapon. The confiscated shotgun has been officially seized by the police. It will now be entered into the circulation system to trace its origins before being submitted for comprehensive ballistic analysis.
