
THOYANDOU — Members of the Thohoyandou Police have arrested a 50-year-old man for the rape of a 64-year-old woman in Malavuwe village.
The incident allegedly occurred at approximately 00:00 on Friday, 19 June 2026. According to police, the victim was walking along a street near the Sydney Simbai kraal when the suspect approached her from behind. The suspect reportedly assaulted and threatened the victim before forcing her into an incomplete house, where he raped her and subsequently fled the scene on foot.
The victim reported the incident to the police. While officers were attending to the matter, the victim identified the suspect in the immediate vicinity, leading to his immediate apprehension.
The 50-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026, facing a charge of rape.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrest, emphasizing the need for strict legal consequences.
Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
