SERITHING VILLAGE — A wanted carjacking suspect was shot and arrested in Serithing Village after violently resisting law enforcement and assaulting officers during a joint police operation. The 46-year-old male is now facing multiple charges following the dramatic confrontation on the morning of Friday, 19 June 2026.

The joint operation was executed by the Rakgoadi Police and the Mabopane Detectives Unit from Gauteng. Authorities were tracking the man for his alleged involvement in a vehicle hijacking and the possession of a stolen automobile, crimes that originally took place within the Mabopane precinct in May 2021.

When the tactical team arrived at a residence in the village, the suspect’s sister identified him to the authorities as he slept in a bedroom. The situation escalated instantly when the man awoke, threw off his blanket, and hurled himself through a bedroom window to the outside in a bid to flee.

Officers waiting outside moved to detain him, but he managed to break free and sprinted toward a nearby kraal. As police pursued him tactically, the fugitive turned and began physically attacking the officers. He ignored repeated verbal warnings to surrender and escalated the violence by grabbing a steel pipe, attempting to strike a law enforcement officer.

With the suspect continuing his aggressive advance, police discharged a warning shot. When he failed to halt, officers fired in self-defense, striking the man in the leg. The suspect dropped the weapon and was immediately taken into custody at the scene.

Following the incident, the suspect was hospitalized for his gunshot wound and remains under strict police guard. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Motetema Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026. Due to his medical condition, he will appear in absentia on charges of assaulting police officers and resisting arrest. Police investigations into the matter remain active.
