The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Amathole District has arrested three men and seized a silver grey Volkswagen Polo after recovering 69.325 kilograms of dagga, valued at R346,625, during a roadblock on the N2 near Dutywa.
The arrest follows a recent increase in evening operations, including roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints on the N2 and other major routes, aimed at curbing drug trafficking.
Between Tuesday evening, 09 June, and Wednesday, 10 June 2026, SAPS officers, assisted by a private security company acting as a force multiplier, manned a roadblock on the N2 near Dutywa. At approximately 02:10 on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, police pulled over a silver grey VW Polo carrying three occupants. During a routine check, officers discovered 15 bags of dagga stashed inside the vehicle.
The three suspects, men aged 32 and 42, were arrested and charged with contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 149 of 1992. They are scheduled to appear in the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
