Three Arrested in Kroonstad Following Recovery of Suspected Stolen Copper Cable

Three suspects, aged between 40 and 41, have been arrested and are facing multiple charges after police recovered suspected stolen copper cable in the Free State.

The arrests followed a targeted tactical operation on Friday, 05 June 2026. Acting on intelligence that a white Mazda was traveling from Steynsrus to Kroonstad with the intention of selling copper cable, law enforcement officers intercepted the vehicle at approximately 08:00.

Upon searching the vehicle, which contained three occupants, police confiscated 41 kilograms of copper cable with an estimated value of R7,800.

Following the seizure, the three individuals were arrested. They are currently being held on charges of tampering with, damaging, or destroying essential infrastructure, as well as the possession of suspected stolen property.

The suspects are expected to make their first appearance before the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon to face the charges.
