
A 28-year-old foreign national male has been arrested in connection with the murder of five young men following a mass shooting in Motherwell on May 27, 2026.
The apprehension was carried out by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Gqeberha. Acting on intelligence gathered during an intensive investigation, detectives executed a tracing operation spanning from the evening of Thursday, June 4, to the morning of Friday, June 5, 2026, which resulted in the successful arrest of the suspect.
The case originates from a mass shooting incident that occurred at approximately 13:33 on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Police responded to reports of gunfire at a residence located on Mnenga Street in NU10, Motherwell. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered five males suffering from gunshot wounds.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata has officially commended the investigating team for their dedication and commitment to the case.
