A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 31 May 2026, for the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Msento Locality, Centane.
The arrest occurred around midday during a routine police patrol on Qolora Road, a strategic operation aimed at curbing serious and violent crimes in the area. Officers observed a male pedestrian carrying an item resembling a shotgun. When police attempted to stop the individual, the suspect fled on foot.
Officers pursued and successfully apprehended the suspect. A subsequent search led to the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The 40-year-old suspect has been charged with unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is scheduled to appear in the Centane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 01 June 2026.
Police have reiterated that visible patrols and community cooperation remain critical tools in the fight against illegal firearms and violent crime.
