GQEBERHA – Four young men, two aged 17 and two aged 18, were fatally shot and a fifth person wounded during a violent incident at a residential property in Motherwell, Gqeberha, yesterday.

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana confirmed that first responders arrived at the scene to find a devastating situation. According to Gantana, four males were discovered in the lounge suffering from gunshot wounds to the head; two were unresponsive while the other two were gasping for breath. A fifth male was found unresponsive in the bathroom, also with a gunshot wound to the head.

Metro Emergency Medical Services personnel declared three of the victims deceased upon arrival. Despite paramedics’ efforts to resuscitate a fourth victim at the scene, he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The fifth victim, who sustained injuries during the incident, was urgently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

“The deceased are four males, two aged 18 years and two aged 17 years,” Brigadier Gantana stated. “Their names will be released once next of kin notification is completed.”

A murder case docket with four counts of murder, along with an additional count of attempted murder, has been opened at SAPS Motherwell. The investigation is being led by the South African Police Service’s Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit.

Authorities have not yet established a motive for the shootings, and the identities of any suspects remain unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
