The United States military conducted fresh overnight strikes targeting an Iranian military facility in the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed.

Centcom stated that American forces intercepted four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed an imminent threat to US troops and commercial shipping near the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, US forces struck an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was actively preparing to launch a fifth drone, according to a US official.

Iranian media reported explosions in areas east of the city following the military action.

A US official characterized the strikes as “measured, purely defensive and intended to maintain the ceasefire.” The Pentagon emphasized that the operation was not an expansion of war, but rather aimed at preserving freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil shipping lanes—and protecting maritime traffic in the region.

The strikes occurred amid ongoing delicate negotiations between the Trump administration, Iran, and Oman regarding ceasefire maintenance and prevention of wider regional escalation. Bandar Abbas serves as Iran’s primary military and shipping hub adjacent to the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman has been playing a quiet mediator role between Washington and Tehran, the official noted. While US authorities continue to characterize the strikes as acts of self-defense, the official added that the President has stated all options remain on the table.

Centcom affirmed that the targeted ground control facility was in the final stages of preparing additional drone attacks at the time of the strike. US forces remain vigilant in monitoring threats to personnel and commercial vessels in the region.
