Three male suspects have been arrested after police recovered dagga valued at an estimated R500,000 from a bus in KuGompo.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), KuGompo Rapid Rail members acted on information received from an informer while on duty on 23 May 2026. The informer tipped them off about a bus transporting a large quantity of dagga from KwaBhaca to Cape Town.

The bus was located on Station Street, near the police offices. Officers approached the driver, who granted permission to search the luggage area. During the search, police found a large quantity of dagga in the luggage section. No one claimed ownership of the drugs.

A continued search revealed a passenger in possession of a backpack containing another large quantity of dagga. The bus driver, his assistant, and the passenger were subsequently arrested.

The three suspects, aged 33, 42, and 50, are scheduled to appear before the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court on 25 May 2026 on charges of possession of dagga and dealing in dagga.

The bus will be booked into evidence as it was used in the commission of a crime.
