Search for missing elderly Hankey man ends well

Through responsive and effective utilization of police resources, resulted in the successful conclusion of a rescue operation in the Hankey area on 26 July 2017.

Members from the Uitenhage K9 Search and Rescue team responded to a complaint on Tuesday, 25 July 2017 of a missing elderly man, the 84-year-old Peter Grootboom, who went missing on Saturday, 23 July 2017, after attending a spiritual session in the Rooiwal area, Hankey.

The search for the missing elderly man, was done with the assistance of the Search and Rescue team, the local community and the PE Air Wing who conducted an aerial search.

After the search was suspended on Tuesday, 26 July 2017, due to bad light and rough terrain the search resumed early on Wednesday, 27 July 2017.

The elderly man was found yesterday, Wednesday, 26 July 2017, at about 11:20 in a ditch about 1,5km from where he was last seen. Fortunately he only had a few minor scratch marks and he was taken immediately for medical treatment.

The Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brig John Lebok thanked all the role players involved for their assistance in ensuring the safe return of the man and he was reunited with his family.
