On 7 May 2026, police in Tembisa arrested an 18-year-old Grade 12 learner from Ingqayizivele Secondary School in connection with the death of a 17-year-old learner from the same school.

The arrest followed an incident on Friday, 24 April 2026, when police were called to a murder scene in an open space between Emkhathini and Endulwini Section. There, they found the body of a teenage girl, still in school uniform, dumped in a stream with stab wounds to her upper body.

The deceased was identified as 17-year-old Lethabo Maroga from Vusumuzi Section.

The detective team conducted investigations and followed up on information that led to the suspect’s arrest.

Tembisa Station Commander, Brigadier Cyril Nkuna, commended the team for working tirelessly to gather information. “With this arrest, I urge the community to remain calm and allow the police space to do their work so that justice can take its course. We do not have to rush arresting suspects, but we want to present watertight cases before the courts and finally remove criminals from the community through hefty sentences,” Nkuna said.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
