Police in KwaZulu-Natal are searching for suspects after cocaine valued at approximately R13 million was seized during an intelligence-driven operation at the Durban Harbour on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

The recovery follows the discovery of drugs in Gauteng province in April 2026, which led to information that the drugs had entered the country via the Durban Harbour. Intelligence was subsequently activated, and certain vessels were profiled.

During the operation, involving officers from the Durban Operational Response Services (ORS) and the Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) unit, 32 blocks suspected to be cocaine were found concealed in the air conditioning compartment of a bus. The buses were shipped from a South American country and were destined for Gauteng province.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects behind the shipment and the intended recipients.
