The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of 27-year-old Thulani Mathuka for rape.

Mathuka was sentenced to 15 years of direct imprisonment by the Koster Regional Court on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

According to the police report, the incident took place on Monday, 30 December 2024, at approximately 21:55. The 41-year-old victim was walking home after visiting a local tavern when Mathuka approached her. He dragged her to a shack and raped her.

Mathuka was arrested the following day, Tuesday, 31 December 2024, and was charged with rape. The court found him guilty based on thorough investigations and the presentation of compelling evidence.
