A suspect involved in Monday’s cash-in-transit robbery in Kranskop Central Business District was discovered dead inside an abandoned vehicle on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. The vehicle was located along a gravel road near the Tugela River on the route toward Nkandla.

According to police reports, the deceased suspect sustained injuries while setting up explosives during the robbery on Monday, 13 April 2026. The suspect was later found deceased at the scene of the abandoned vehicle.

During the initial incident in the Kranskop CBD, a cash-in-transit vehicle was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. Three security guards were robbed of their firearms. Four vehicles were hijacked and utilized as getaway vehicles by the perpetrators.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects fired shots toward a police station during the commission of the robbery. No police officer or member sustained injuries in the shooting.

A manhunt is currently underway for additional suspects. Authorities believe the group consists of at least 12 individuals.
