Teenager Arrested for Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition

On 12 April 2026, members of the Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 17-year-old male in Westbury, Sophiatown, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

According to information released by authorities, the arrest was conducted following a tip-off that was operationalised by the unit. Upon arrival at the identified premises, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended by the responding officers.

A search of the suspect resulted in the discovery of an unlicensed firearm with a filed-off serial number. Officers also recovered 14 rounds of live ammunition in his possession.
