Border Patrol agents arrested four men last week after they allegedly crossed illegally into the United States near the Maine-Canada border in Somerset County.
The arrests occurred near Golden Road, according to a Border Patrol spokesperson.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) received a tip from two maple sugar workers who spotted the men walking along the roadway. The workers alerted authorities to the suspicious activity.
Court documents indicate that the four men claimed they were unaware they had crossed the international border.
Border Patrol also reported that it appeared a car was waiting for the group at the location. A spokesperson noted that it remains unclear whether the two individuals in the vehicle will face charges.
The four men are now facing charges related to the alleged illegal entry.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about border security along the northern frontier, where remote wooded areas and rural roads can sometimes be used for unauthorized crossings.
