A 27-year-old professional cornhole player who is a quadruple amputee has been formally charged with first-degree murder and other offenses in the fatal shooting of another man during an argument in Charles County on March 22, 2026.
Dayton James Webber, of La Plata, Md., was arraigned in the District Court of Maryland for Charles County after authorities located and arrested him in Charlottesville, Virginia, according to court documents and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Webber faces the following charges in connection with the death of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells:
- First-Degree Murder, accused of intentionally and with premeditated malice killing Bradrick Wells on or about March 22, 2026, at 1015 Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, Charles County.
- Second-Degree Murder in the same incident.
- Two counts of Assault in the First Degree — one relating to an alleged assault on someone identified as Bradwick Webber and another relating to Bradrick Wells.
- Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
The shooting occurred around 10:25 p.m. on March 22 near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata. La Plata police officers were flagged down by two witnesses who had been in the backseat of a car driven by Webber. According to charging documents signed by a detective from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Webber shot and killed his front-seat passenger, Bradrick Michael Wells, during an argument.
Webber then pulled over in the area of Radio Station Road and Llano Drive and asked the backseat passengers to help remove the victim from the car. The witnesses refused, got out of the vehicle, and alerted police. Webber fled the scene with Wells still inside the car.
Nearly two hours later, a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall called 9-1-1 to report a body in a front yard. Officers responded and found Wells, of Waldorf, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators tracked Webber’s vehicle to a gas station in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was located at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for a medical issue and was arrested by the Albemarle County Police Department after his release. He was initially charged as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Charles County.
A spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office noted that there is no evidence at this point to suggest anyone else was involved and that Webber acted alone. The spokesperson credited the witnesses and coordinated police work between local detectives and Virginia authorities for the swift arrest.
All occupants of the car were known to each other, authorities said. A video from Webber’s social media, titled “No Hands, No Feet, Shooting 9mm Handgun,” has circulated online in connection with the case.
Webber remains in custody in Virginia pending extradition, where he will face the full slate of charges in Maryland.
