Four suspects wanted for a string of serious crimes were shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police on Monday afternoon, 23 March 2026.

According to police reports, Crime Intelligence officers spotted the suspects in the vicinity of Bellair, after which the information was operationalised. The suspects, who were allegedly terrorizing the communities of Mbumbulu, KwaMakhutha, Ntuzuma, and Folweni, disobeyed police orders to stop, leading to a high-speed vehicle chase.

The chase concluded at a house the suspects were using as a hideout, where a shootout ensued between police and the suspects. Four suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the exchange. A fifth suspect narrowly evaded arrest and remains the subject of an ongoing police search.

Authorities recovered four firearms from the suspects. No police officers were injured during the shootout.

The slain suspects were wanted for a range of serious offenses, including murder, attempted murder of police officers, car and truck hijackings, as well as business and house robberies.
