Deon van der Merwe and Katrien Fourie were attacked with pangas and a hammer after six men gained entry to their house at the resort.
“I can confirm the crime did happen and Mpumalanga police are investigating the matter,” he said.
“The couple were driven out the house by a substance that was lit and thrown into the house by the [suspects]. The smoke filled the house. It was when the two went out the house for fresh air that they were attacked.”
