
Police in Kwazakele have arrested six suspects within 30 minutes of a reported robbery in the area on Tuesday.
According to police, a 29-year-old man was washing his vehicle outside his flat on Mase Street around 12:00 when he was confronted by suspects who robbed him of his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police responded swiftly to the scene and launched a search for the suspects. At approximately 12:30, officers cornered the group at a house in Mancam Street, Kwazakele.
All six suspects, aged between 20 and 26, were taken into custody. During the arrest, officers recovered the stolen cellphone and seized two replica firearms.
The group is currently facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of dangerous weapons. Police have indicated that additional charges may be added as the investigation continues.
The suspects are scheduled to make their first appearance before the New Brighton Magistrate Court on Friday, 13 March 2026. The investigation is being conducted by the SAPS Kwazakele.
