A 62-year-old Ngojini man has been arrested for the murder of his 14-year-old son.

Police were called to a residence on the morning of Tuesday, 06 January 2026. Investigation indicates the father assaulted the teenager with a sjambok and a stick on Monday evening, 05 January 2026, around 22:00. The assault is alleged to have been triggered by the son stealing and using the father’s bank card at a local spaza shop.

After the assault, the victim was tied with a rope and kept inside overnight. He was found dead at approximately 04:00 on Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested by Ngqeleni police and is due to appear in the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, 07 January 2026, on a murder charge.
