The ILembe cluster Task team conducted an operation at Mgetane area, Nsuze and Sundumbili searching for the unlicensed firearms which were in the hands of the criminals.
This led to the recovery of AK47 rifle, shotgun and a pistol.
Two suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrested suspects are appearing in the Nsuze and Nyoni Magistrates’ Court on 22 June 2017.
“The elimination of unlicensed firearms will prevent the serious and violent crimes from being committed and also prevent the loss of life. We will continue with our operations to ensure the safety of our citizens in our province,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
