Scholars implicated in Verulam robbery

Reaction Unit South Africa

Four grade 8 learners were apprehended by members of Reaction Unit South Africa on Buxon Street in Verulam after they were implicated in a robbery.

At approximately 11:27 the victims arrived at RUSA Officers requesting assistance after they were robbed of their valuables. They claimed that while seated on the school grounds they noticed 7 individuals walking towards them.

Three Indian males from the group accosted the two. One suspect threw the 16 year old female to the ground, climbed on top of her before he slapped her and stole her Samsung Tablet. The 17 year old boy went to her aid and was assaulted by the other two suspects before they robbed him of his Huawei cellphone. The suspects repeatedly warned the two that if they screamed for help they would be killed. The 7 then fled the scene.

The victims informed Officers that two of the individuals were dressed in school uniform. Reaction Officers went in search of the suspects and apprehended 4 of them on Buxon Street. It was established that the four were grade 8 learners at a high school in Verulam. They had bunked school today and were walking around aimlessly when the three older boys decided to rob the victims. They were identified as Marlon, Clinton and Sashen from Station Park in Canelands. Marlon is a relative of two of the female scholars that were apprehended.

The four scholars were handed over to authorities for further investigation.
