
The Department of Basic Education has established a national investigation task team to probe potential further irregularities in the matric examinations. This decisive move comes in direct response to the detection of an exam paper leak in the Kha region.
Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, announced that the team will begin its work immediately to safeguard the integrity of the 2025 exams. Minister Gwarube confirmed that criminal charges will be pursued against officials involved in the leak, which implicated 26 learners.
“Our established protocols have contained it. It is investigated with the highest rigor,” stated Minister Gwarube. “UMALUSI, our quality assurer, has been briefed. The national investigative task team will begin its work immediately to establish the full facts. This has been isolated to a few learners in seven schools in the Pretoria area.”
