TCS organised a workshop with more than 34 senior officials of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE) in Nairobi focused on how scalable, secure, and citizen-first platforms can transform public services and create a model for the rest of Africa.

NAIROBI, KENYA | November, 2025: Kenya is rapidly positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation, leveraging global expertise to build the foundations for a more inclusive, citizen-centric future. With digital public infrastructure (DPI) now recognised as a critical driver of economic growth and social progress, the country is looking to international partners to help realise its ambitions.

This month, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT and business solutions provider, convened more than 34 senior officials of the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MICDE) in Nairobi for a workshop focused on accelerating Kenya’s digital roadmap.

The discussions around this workshop began in May when the Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, Cabinet Secretary, MICDE visited the TCS Executive Briefing Centre (EBC) in Mumbai during his visit to India. So as part of his vision of seeing a more digitally inclusive Kenya, this workshop was conceptualised with DPI as the focus of discussions.

The workshop revolved around discussions about how scalable, secure, and citizen-first platforms can transform public services and create a model for the rest of Africa.

Digital inclusion as a national priority for Kenya

The MICDE delegation, led by Mary N. Kerema, Secretary (MICDE) at the workshop, was thrilled with such initiatives being discussed along with the possibility of implementing it in the near future.

Kenya’s government has made digital inclusion a central pillar for its Vision 2030 strategy. The country’s digital roadmap calls for universal access to secure digital identity, real-time data exchange and improving public services like healthcare and education – essentials for efficient and accessible public services. For businesses, this digital backbone is expected to drive innovation and attract investment while generating new jobs.

In India, TCS has worked extensively in the country’s passport, post modernization and health claims processing programs, highlighting enormous scale and end-to-end transformation for public services in the country. TCS’s approach is rooted in its experience delivering mission-critical digital solutions for governments worldwide.

The Nairobi workshop highlighted platforms such as DigiBolt™ (for digital public infrastructure), Sovereign Cloud (for secure, compliant government cloud adoption), TCS iON™ (for digital transformation in education and skills), Sustainability and Digital Farming Initiatives (DFI). These solutions are already in use in markets like India and the UK and are designed to be adapted for Kenya’s unique needs.

The MICDE officials were eager to learn more about the various solutions displayed during the workshop. They saw these solutions as tools to improve Kenya’s public services which would enable economic and social growth for its citizens.

Sumanta Roy, President & Regional Head, Middle East and Africa, Tata Consultancy Services said, “Kenya is emerging as one of Africa’s most dynamic digital economies. Through this workshop, we are deepening our collaboration with the MICDE Ministry to build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital infrastructure for the country. With Digital public infrastructure being the new growth engine for emerging economies, our partnership with Kenya reflects TCS’s belief that technology, when built inclusively and at scale, can transform lives and shape the future of nations. Together with the MICDE Ministry, we aim to co-create a future where technology strengthens public services, drives innovation, and delivers lasting socio-economic impact.”

Beyond Technology: Building a digital society

The workshop’s agenda reflected the complexity of Kenya’s digital journey, addressing not only the deployment of new platforms, but also the broader policy and social challenges. Topics included sovereign cloud adoption, police modernisation, and the use of AI for smarter, more transparent governance. The emphasis was on creating a sustainable digital society, one where technology is a tool for inclusion, not a barrier.

“This engagement reflects TCS’s goal of transforming Kenya’s economic and social growth by combining our local understanding of the region with our global experience in digital transformation. By working closely with Kenya’s government, we aim to modernize service delivery, enable sovereign cloud adoption, and create technology platforms that empower every citizen. By combining TCS’s proven digital capabilities with Kenya’s ambitious vision, we are building systems that make public services more accessible, transparent, and impactful. Kenya’s progress in this space will set an inspiring benchmark for the region,” said Langa Dube, Regional Director, South Africa & Rest of Africa, Tata Consultancy Services.

As Kenya advances its digital roadmap, the country’s partnership with TCS offers a glimpse of what is possible for the continent. The outcomes of this workshop are expected to drive ongoing collaboration, knowledge sharing and co-creation of solutions tailored to Africa’s needs.

For citizens, this means more efficient and accessible public services. For the economy, it means a foundation for innovation and growth. For Africa, Kenya’s experience could become a blueprint for digital transformation; one that is secure, inclusive, and built to last.
