Two People and Pet Critically Injured in Devastating House Fire in Spiregreen, Phoenix, Durban

A devastating house fire in Spiregreen, Greenbury, Phoenix, left two people and a house pet with severe injuries on Saturday morning, 15 November 2025.

The inferno, which tore through the property within minutes, sparked a massive emergency response from KZNVIP and other critical services. KZNVIP Emergency Control Centre received urgent requests for assistance following reports of a home engulfed in flames in the Greenbury area, Phoenix.

Upon arrival, KZNVIP responders found the house fully alight, with thick smoke escaping from the structure as community members desperately attempted to rescue two people trapped inside.

Community members played a vital role, using a ladder to rescue a teenage girl trapped on the second floor. During the escape, the teen sustained serious burn wounds and while descending the ladder, she unfortunately fell, resulting in additional traumatic injuries. KZNVIP Emergency

Teams took over and began full stabilization as fire department raced through the burning home to rescue the second entrapped victim.

The second patient, an adult male, remained trapped in one of the burning rooms but a swift response from Firefighters who forced entry to extricate the second patient. He sustained severe burns to more than 50% of his body and was left in a critical condition. KZNVIP medics took over treatment immediately and rapidly transported both patients to the nearby medical facility for further medical attention.

A kitten also sustained smoke inhalation and burns, emrs medics assisted to stabilise and Spca was also dispatched to the scene.

At this stage, the cause of the blaze cannot be determine. All emergency services — including Fire Department, KZNVIP Emergency Medical and Response Teams, Metro Police and community first responders, were in attendance.

Extensive damage was noted to the home, to the Fire Department, KZNVIP Officials and Community members who assisted and worked together to rescue those entrapped a very big job well done??  its not many days we have success stories but every effort by you guys a truly appreciated and once again we thank you.
