The SAPS Mount Road cluster is investigating a brutal case of murder and house robbery that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 30 October 2025, in the Newton Park area.
According to preliminary police reports, authorities responded to a complaint of a house robbery on Mangold Street at approximately 02:20. Upon arrival, officers met with a female victim who recounted the traumatic event.
The victim stated that she and her 65-year-old life partner were asleep when she was awakened by a loud noise. Upon going to investigate the sound, she was confronted in the passage by four unknown suspects.
The assailants proceeded to restrain the woman by tying her hands with cable ties, covering her head with a pillowcase, and gagging her. While she was incapacitated, the suspects ransacked the home.
After the suspects fled the scene, having stolen a laptop and the partner’s Nissan Juke vehicle, the woman managed to free herself. It was then that she made a harrowing discovery: her 65-year-old life partner was unresponsive. He had been stabbed to death.
In a subsequent development, police confirmed that the stolen Nissan Juke was later recovered in the Central area.
Police investigations into the murder and house robbery are continuing.
