A 28-year-old male, who was left permanently disabled in a motor vehicle accident in 2014, was kidnapped and held captive for an extended period. The perpetrators forced him to transfer his Road Accident Fund (RAF) compensation to them.

The victim was released and dropped off in a wheelchair at the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters. During an interview, the man explained that he had received R1.2 million from the RAF four (4) months prior for the accident that occurred eleven (11) years ago and he had invested some of the funds in construction at his residence.

On Friday, October 04, 2025, at approximately 02:00 am, several armed individuals broke into his home, forced him into a vehicle at gunpoint, and took him to an unknown location. The suspects provided a wheelchair for the victim and attempted to download a Capitec App on multiple mobile phones. After several days, they successfully activated the app and transferred the available funds.

The victim reported being fed fried chicken daily and being forced to verify details with the bank telephonically.
