The Western Cape police management has issued a strong condemnation of the “ruthless and reckless conduct of criminals” following a shooting incident in Hanover Park on Wednesday afternoon that left a four-year-old boy injured.

The incident occurred in the Moray Court area on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, at approximately 14:30. According to police reports, suspects believed to be linked to gang activity opened fire in a public space. During the shooting, a four-year-old boy was struck and wounded by a stray bullet.

The child was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded with what officials described as “swift and decisive action,” leading to the arrest of two suspects shortly after the incident. The suspects, both aged 17, are currently in police custody and are expected to be formally charged before a court.
