At Artful Cakery by Julie, founder Julie McDaniel doesn’t just bake cakes—she creates edible works of art that tell a story. Based in Atlanta and serving couples across the Southeast, Julie is known for crafting wedding cakes that reflect each couple’s unique love story and vision.
“I believe your cake should be more than just dessert. It should be a centerpiece that reflects your personality, love story, and wedding style,” Julie says.
Julie’s process is collaborative and thoughtful. She draws inspiration from floral designs, venue architecture, décor, and color palettes—translating them into original cake designs using techniques like sculpted sugar florals and soft textures crafted with a palette knife.

Julie’s cake artistry journey began in 2009 when she made her very first wedding cake. That one experience sparked a passion that led to a full-fledged business—and she hasn’t looked back since. Over the years, Julie’s work has evolved in both style and scale, but what remains consistent is her dedication to quality and meaningful design. Today, she is known not only for her artistic talent but also for her calm, professional, and stress-free approach that couples and planners appreciate deeply.
Her work has been featured in well-known platforms like Carats & Cake, Atlanta Style Weddings, and The Classic Wedding, and she’s received numerous accolades including The Knot Best of Weddings, WeddingWire’s Couples’ Choice Awards, and Best of Georgia. But for Julie, the most meaningful recognition often comes from her clients themselves.
“Some families have had me make wedding cakes for all three of their daughters. Some couples have come back to me for anniversary cakes, baby showers, or their child’s first birthday. I’ve even had clients who started with a baby shower cake and now want me to create their wedding cake years later. That kind of connection is the heart of what I do,” she shares.
Moments like these reinforce why she loves what she does—and why she sees cake not just as a treat, but as part of a family’s evolving story. She’s proud to have clients who return to her again and again, allowing her to be part of their lives over many chapters and milestones.
Julie also believes in staying rooted in authenticity. She encourages fellow creatives in the wedding and event industry to remain true to their own voice and values. “Trends come and go, but your passion, values, and unique vision are what make you stand out,” she says.
In addition to artistry, Julie emphasizes professionalism and integrity. She believes consistency, kindness, and respect are just as important as creative talent when it comes to building a successful business. Strong relationships with clients and vendors, high-quality photography, and honest communication have all played key roles in her continued growth.
And, just as importantly, she’s learned the power of setting boundaries. “It’s okay to say no,” she affirms. If a design request doesn’t align with her style or bring her joy, she feels comfortable referring the client elsewhere—knowing that doing so serves both parties better in the long run.
Whether she’s crafting a vintage-inspired showstopper or a minimalist cake with subtle symbolic details, Julie pours heart, intention, and creativity into everything she makes. Through Artful Cakery by Julie, she continues to prove that a cake can be far more than a sweet ending—it can be a memory, a statement, and a symbol of love shared and celebrated.
