A 27-year-old man from Gauteng has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment after being found guilty on a charge of dealing in drugs. The sentencing was handed down at the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 09 September 2025, in connection with drugs with an estimated street value of R600,000.
The conviction stems from a police operation that took place on the evening of Friday, 15 November 2024. At approximately 21:00, police acting on intelligence about two vehicles transporting a drug consignment into George successfully intercepted the suspects.
The information was relayed to patrol units and members of the Conville Crime Prevention Unit, who located and pulled over the vehicles in the Industrial Area of George. A subsequent search of the vehicles led to the discovery of drugs concealed within two 10 kg potato bags, a 25 kg maize meal bag, and a 10 kg onion bag, all stashed on the back seat of a Volkswagen Polo.
The police confiscated a total of 12,219 mandrax tablets from the hidden compartments. Two men, both from Gauteng, were arrested at the scene in connection with the find.
The convicted individual, identified as Themba Ndimandi (27), was found guilty and received his seven-year sentence this week.
His 45-year-old accomplice remains in custody and is still before the court. He is also facing a charge of dealing in drugs and is scheduled to appear again on 14 October 2025.
The case is being investigated by the Western Cape Provincial Detectives’ Narcotics Section, which is based in George.
