At this year’s Enlit Africa, one of the most talked-about announcements was the strategic partnership between Conlog and Plentify. Together, they are aiming to transform home energy management for millions of households across Africa. But beyond the headlines, their joint showcase offered three clear lessons for how to build truly smart energy systems that work for the real world, not just in theory.
1. The energy crisis is local and personal
Plentify’s CEO, Jon Kornik, reminded the audience that energy innovation isn’t just about fixing the grid, it’s about empowering the household. With the growing mismatch between when energy is generated (solar-heavy daytimes) and when it’s needed (early mornings and evenings), consumers are paying the price in higher tariffs and unreliable access. The partnership responds with solutions that put control and savings back in the hands of ordinary people.
2. We don’t need more infrastructure, we need smarter systems
During the exhibition, Conlog and Plentify showcased how intelligent controllers like HotBot and SolarBot can shift energy use without new infrastructure or added burden on the grid. HotBot, an intelligent geyser controller, and SolarBot, an intelligent inverter companion work together to deliver cleaner, cheaper energy. According to the presentation, just deploying HotBots to 25% of homes can cut 20 hours of load shedding per month. That’s a significant opportunity for municipalities trying to manage budget constraints.
3. AI and automation aren’t optional, they’re essential
The Plentify App and dashboard show how homeowners and utilities can use real-time data to make intelligent energy decisions autonomously. Whether it’s shifting geyser usage to when solar is abundant, or monitoring household battery charge to prevent outages, the system learns and adapts to user behaviour.
The lesson? The future of energy is not just about renewables, it’s about optimisation.
As the energy transition gains urgency, Africa can’t afford to wait for perfect conditions. It needs real-world solutions that are accessible, scalable, and cost-effective. The Conlog x Plentify partnership shows what’s possible when the grid and the home work as one.
