OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, has welcomed the arrest of a 52-year-old man from Dokotela locality in Libode in connection with the murder of a 72-year-old man. The suspect was apprehended on Friday, 15 August 2025, following an investigation into the killing, which occurred on Tuesday, 12 August 2025.
According to police reports, the elderly victim was found dead in his home, hanging from the roof in what was initially made to appear as a suicide. However, preliminary investigations revealed that the man had first been strangled by two suspects before being hanged to stage the scene. The motive for the crime is believed to be robbery, as the assailants allegedly knew the deceased kept money in a safe inside the house.
The arrested suspect, who served as the deceased’s chauffeur, is set to appear before the Libode Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 August 2025, facing a charge of murder. His alleged accomplice remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to track him down.
