Nigeria’s military has struck a major blow against terrorism in the northeast, eliminating 592 terrorists in Borno State over the past eight months, officials announced. The intensified air campaign has also destroyed over 200 terrorist vehicles and 166 logistic hubs, marking a decisive escalation in the fight against Boko Haram and Daesh-linked militants.

Relentless Air Campaign Yields Results

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, revealed that the recent operations have surpassed last year’s achievements, with Nigerian fighter jets flying 798 combat missions and logging over 1,500 operational hours under Operation Hadin Kai. The air force conducted relentless day and night raids in key terrorist strongholds, including Gonori, Rann, Dikwa, Damboa, Azir and Mallam Fatori.

“For years, Boko Haram and Daesh affiliates have terrorized civilians and security forces,” Abubakar stated. “But now, Nigeria’s air campaign is hitting harder than ever.”

Joint Operations Crush Kidnapping Threat

In a recent success, a joint air-ground operation in Zamfara State wiped out armed kidnappers massing to attack a village, preventing another potential tragedy. The military’s sustained offensive has disrupted militant supply lines and weakened their ability to launch large-scale attacks.

A Turning Point in the Conflict?

The northeastern region has long been plagued by extremist violence, but the latest figures suggest Nigeria’s military is gaining momentum. With hundreds of terrorists neutralized and critical infrastructure destroyed, security forces aim to cripple insurgent operations permanently.

Defense analysts caution, however, that while air strikes have been effective, a long-term solution will require continued ground operations and regional cooperation to prevent militants from regrouping.

As Nigeria’s armed forces press their advantage, civilians in the northeast hope this marks the beginning of the end for a conflict that has displaced millions and claimed countless lives over the past decade.
