A KwaMashu family is pleading for assistance after their home was petrol bombed in late July, allegedly following threats from armed men demanding they vacate the property.
The family claims that unidentified gunmen stormed their house, insisting they leave because the property had been “sold to someone else.” Shortly after the confrontation, the home was set alight in a suspected arson attack, leaving the family traumatized and displaced.
“We don’t know who these people are or why they’re targeting us,” said one family member, who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons. “We’ve lived here for years, and now we have nowhere to go.”
Local authorities have confirmed an investigation into the incident but have yet to make any arrests. Community leaders and civil rights organizations have condemned the attack, calling for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable families from illegal evictions and violence.
