The burnt body of a woman was discovered in a shallow grave at Waltloo train station, marking the fourth such grim finding in the area since June. Police have arrested a 36-year-old suspect linked to at least one of the murders, with the suspect set to appear in court tomorrow.
Community in Fear as Pattern Emerges
Local residents are gripped by fear as the bodies of four women have now been found in Pretoria East, including Waltloo and nearby Silverton. While authorities have not yet confirmed a direct connection between all cases, they are not ruling out the possibility of a serial killer.
A Brigadier speaking at the scene, revealed that a specialized task force—including crime intelligence, forensic experts, and investigative psychologists—has been assembled to determine if the killings are linked. “We cannot rule out the possibility of a serial offender,” he said.
Suspect Already Facing Rape Charges
The arrested suspect, currently out on bail for a separate rape charge, is also being investigated for two additional rape cases. According to police, he allegedly targeted victims through dating apps, luring them to secluded areas under false pretenses before assaulting them.
Victims Identified, Families Devastated
One of the victims, a 30-year-old woman, had been reported missing before her body was found. Families of the other victims have also come forward to identify their loved ones.
A local community leader expressed distress over the violence, particularly during Women’s Month in South Africa. “It doesn’t matter the race or culture—this is someone’s daughter, sister, or mother,” she said. “Women are scared to even use the train stations now.”
Police Urge Public to Come Forward
Authorities have called on anyone with information to assist in the investigation. Meanwhile, residents remain on edge, with many questioning whether more arrests will follow.
As the probe continues, the haunting question lingers: Is a serial killer targeting women in Pretoria? For now, police are keeping all possibilities open.
