Five suspects were fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police in Crown Mines on Thursday, 24 July 2025, after authorities intercepted a group allegedly planning a cash-in-transit robbery in Johannesburg.
According to police reports, officers acted on intelligence regarding the suspects’ planned heist. The suspects’ vehicle was spotted near the M1/M2 highway split, but they sped away upon noticing the police. A high-speed chase ensued, during which the suspects opened fire on pursuing officers, prompting police to return fire.
The suspects’ vehicle ultimately crashed into a palisade fence, and all five occupants were fatally shot. Preliminary investigations revealed that the same vehicle was linked to a murder and cash-in-transit robbery in Kingsley, KwaZulu-Natal, on 14 July 2025. Inside the car, authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and explosives.
