Six people were killed and several others injured in a mass shooting at a tavern in the Choba informal settlement, Olievenhoutbosch, on Tuesday night.
According to police reports, a group of approximately 10 armed men stormed the establishment around 9 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately. The victims include two women and three men, with three others sustaining serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as patrons fled for safety. Bloodstains and bullet casings marked the crime scene, which authorities have cordoned off for investigation.
Police have taken the tavern owner in for questioning, though the motive remains unclear. Provincial Commissioner’s Office has issued a statement confirming the incident and urging community members with information to come forward.
“We are on the lookout for the suspects and appeal to the public to assist in bringing them to justice,” the statement read.
Residents remain shaken, with many reluctant to speak on camera due to fear. Authorities continue to gather evidence as the manhunt intensifies.
