The Tembisa Magistrate’s Court has handed down a life sentence to David Langeni for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in a shocking 2019 case that highlighted the vulnerability of children to violent crime.

The incident occurred on 10 June 2019, when Langeni encountered the young victim at her home after school. According to court records, he called out to her, but she responded that she was busy and would see him later. Ignoring her refusal, Langeni forcefully grabbed her, dragged her to his room in Umnonjaneni Section, Tembisa South, and raped her.

The case was reported to Tembisa South SAPS on 17 January 2020 and assigned to Warrant Officer William Shiahikane Maela of the Tembisa Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit. Through diligent investigation, W/O Maela gathered compelling evidence and successfully presented it before the court, leading to a conviction.

After a lengthy legal process, Langeni was found guilty on 04 July 2025. The court imposed the harshest possible penalty, sentencing him to life imprisonment.
