A 31 year old man was hospitalised after consuming a candy bar containing Cannabis in Umdloti Beach – KZN today (Thursday).
A resident contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance after they noticed the male behaving delusional on Newsel Road. Reaction Officers & RUSA Paramedics were immediately dispatched and on arrival, found the male lying on the bonnet of a vehicle (picture 2).
It was established that he and a female are employed at a property on the same road. They were alone on the property due to their employers holidaying in Europe. The female was in the process of cleaning the residence when she discovered the candy.
She opened the packaging and took a small bite. She handed it over to the Gardener after she felt that it was too sweet for her liking. The male consumed the balance of the confectionery.
The Zimbabwean national began behaving in an irrational manner a short while later. He left the property and proceeded to a neighbouring house where he dived into the pool. He thereafter exited and fled onto the road where he jumped onto a vehicle.
RUSA Paramedics examined the packaging of the nougat and found that it was within its expiration date. It contained 50 milligrams of Cannabis.
The male continued behaving irrationally and was transported to hospital by ambulance.
