At 09:00 this morning the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) R44 helicopter lifted off from Verulam to assist in the search of a missing policeman.
The Warrant Officer who is based at the Tongaat SAPS made a call to a colleague at approximately 03:00 this morning stating that he was been chased by unknown assailants when he crashed his vehicle, a Toyota Etios with registration NJ 25477.
The last location given by the SAPS Official was near Watson Highway in Tongaat and the only place in sight was lights from King Shaka International Airport. He cellphone had been switched off since and his vehicle has not been located.
The Umhlali SAPS K9 Search & Rescue Services as well as members of the public are currently assisting with the ground search.
An extensive ariel search was conducted however the vehicle or the missing man could not be located.
