The Greytown Regional Court has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a 29-year-old man after he was convicted of raping his 8-year-old biological daughter in March 2025. The horrific incident took place in Townland, within the Greytown policing precinct.
According to court proceedings, the accused arrived at the residence where the victim was staying with her aunt while under the influence of alcohol. He allegedly demanded that the child sleep in his room. The following morning, the aunt noticed the young girl was struggling to walk. Upon further questioning, the traumatized child disclosed that her father had raped her.
A rape case was immediately opened and assigned to Sergeant Richard Gilden of the Greytown Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit. The accused was swiftly arrested, and a meticulous investigation followed. All evidence was carefully compiled and presented before the court.
On 13 June 2025, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge. The court found no mitigating circumstances and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
